A very successful WestRun 2006.

This year’s event was based in the Clarinbridge Court Hotel in Clarinbridge and was regarded as one of the most successful to date.

The usual static display took place at the Spanish Arch in the afternoon of Friday, July 28th with registration taking place during the afternoon and in Clarinbridge prior to the Friday night Social where music for dancing was provided by Sean Walsh and his band. Almost 100 cars took part and the event was officially opened by the Mayor of Galway city, councillor Niall Ó Brolacháin.

The Run on Saturday, July 29th commenced at the hotel at 10.00am and traveled through the Burren to Lahinch in County Clare and returned via Liscannor, Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, Fanore, Ballyvaughan and Kinvara. Father Tommy Marrinan celebrated a special mass in the hotel prior to the Saturday night Banquet and prizegiving which commenced at 9.00pm with an excellent dinner and magnificent music supplied by the Brose Walsh band from County Mayo. The function was attended by over 200 people and the guests of honour were the Mayor of County Galway, councillor Michael Mullins and his wife Mary.

Sunday morning, July 30th saw a farewell party with a light lunch and some music, song and chat, hosted by the social committee.

This year’s WestRun was again under the direction of the W.V.V.M.C. Director of Events, John Folan, and the main sponsor was the Carparts Warehouse.
